#Imhotep made it to the table for the first time in a while. Always a fun time.

#Azul: Summer Pavilion arrived on the weekend from Amazon and we got in two plays of that. Both of which my son won.

trentellingsen Supporter6 days ago | 1 point[-]

How many players did you have on #Imhotep? I found it’s cut throat with 2 but a lot more relaxed with 3+

CaptainPossum Supporter6 days ago | 1 point[-]

3 players.

I did have one really cutthroat move...my son was trying to collect additional statues for points and the market had 3 of them. I used one of the cards that lets you place a stone and sail a ship with one action and sailed the single cube ship to the market haha

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

How is Imhotep?

CaptainPossum Supporter6 days ago | 1 point[-]

Sorry missed your comment. I enjoy it. Glad it is in my collection and anticipate that it will stay. Dont really feel the need for any of the expansions.

Xarbnot87 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

Finally got to play Castles of Burgundy this weekend. I bought it over a year ago and it just never made it to the table. But I am already hooked. What a fantastic 2 player game! Now to just figure out how to upgrade the components.

TangoTec 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

I played a 2 player game of Small World with my dad. First time playing it and would recommend it. Also played a few games of  Magic: The Gathering. Lost some, won some.

philryuh Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

I still haven't had a chance to play #Small World but wanted to try it out at least once some day. One of 3 Minute Board Game's recent video covered top games to play on steam and that was one of them so hopefully soon!

Cory 6 days ago | 1 point[-]

The Dwarves!  I love this game but it seems to be largely forgotten.

VirgilRey 6 days ago | 1 point[-]

Played Pax Pamir on Vassal. First time playing the game - am addicted big time now. Beautiful game design.

Jonona 7 days ago | 1 point[-]

Played our first scenario of Gloomhaven. Playing second one today. Loving it.

Played the physical games of Seven Wonders Duel and Grifters with my boyfriend. Both games are so addictive. It is nice to have shorter games that is not difficult to play or set up  with so much replay value. I play this a lot on my tablet with the app. Looking at the expansion.

Also played these boardgame apps on my tablet- Galaxy Trucker, Pandemic, Lords of Waterdeep with Skullport expansion, Onitama, and Terraforming Mars. All excellent apps.

Struggling to learn Twilight Struggle.

Anybody else have a favorite board game app?

philryuh Supporter4 days ago | 2 points[-]

I'm just getting into apps or anything digital these days. I've played #Tokaido and #On Tour apps but they're not necessarily games I'd play all that often. I'm looking forward to trying out #Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization app since I've heard great things. I also wanted to tackle some of the games mentioned by @3MBG on his latest video: https://www.boardgameatlas.com/forum/HheGJP52WB/20-great-games-on-steam-for-board-gamers--youtube.

I want to try out #Raiders of the North Sea too.

Jonona 4 days ago | 1 point[-]

I was playing #Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization app for a while. It is so hard and complex to figure out the right strategies to ever win. It is definitely something to dig into when you have the time, so now is perfect. #Raiders of the North Sea is one of my favorite board games. I have not downloaded the app because it does not offer the expansions. Hopefully they soon will. Thanks for the other info.

philryuh Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

That's good to hear, and I liked that it seemed to have some various challenges it offers. When I saw SU&SD's review of Through the Ages, and seeing all of the cubes, I knew I wouldn't want to manage all those.

I've been enjoying #Architects of the West Kingdom so I'll definitely be trying out Raiders. And I hope you check out the video! I was surprised by how many of the games on the list had me wanting to try them.

Jonona 3 days ago | 1 point[-]

The video is great. I watch a lot of his videos. His taste is very similar to mine. Thanks for the link.

I introduced my parents to #Forbidden Island. I thought it'd be a walk in the park but we actually lost! And we were sooooooo close! (I didn't even realize you could lose a game by having the water rise to the highest point haha)

On another note, my mom wants to try out #Viticulture: Essential Edition. Phew, wish me luck everyone. It'll be her most complex game yet. It'll also be my wife's first time experiencing Viticulture with more than 2p. Bonus action spaces will finally be available :)

Skurvy5 Supporter6 days ago | 1 point[-]

Nice! Good luck!

Oh man! Two tiles left! haha My wife and I like to make our own island designs. Some of them become nearly impossible haha But it's fun to mix things up a bit :)

JamesReid860 Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Got a play of Star Realms in over lunch. First time playing and it was quite enjoyable. We played just the base game and had 30 authority to have a shorter game to get the feel of it. We also did Pandemic with friends over Zoom.

TangoTec 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

If you like Star realms, try Hero Realms! You get unique characters and a campaign.

JamesReid860 Supporter5 days ago | 1 point[-]

After playing a few games I do think that would be a really fun addition. One of these days...

Still, my wife and I are really enjoying it

nealkfrank 9 days ago | 1 point[-]

I have actually been able to play a ton of online stuff.

#Agricola (Revised Edition) x2

#Concordia x2

#The Castles of Burgundy in the middle of a second game

#Trajan in the middle of a second game

#Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar in the middle of a second game

And I am in the middle of a game of #Kanban as well. I also have a couple games of #Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization through the app as well. I have been enjoying that, it is hard to be good though lol.

Not much in real life though, my wife and I have been jamming on a 2000 piece puzzle so that has taken over the table!

Marshwiggle92 Supporter7 days ago | 1 point[-]

Glad you still like #The Castles of Burgundy

Marshwiggle92 Supporter7 days ago | 1 point[-]

How do you like kanban?

nealkfrank 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

Still in the middle of the game, I am playing online on a turn by turn basis so I think it will take a while! I am still learning the game but it is interesting for sure.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter5 days ago | 1 point[-]

It really looks interesting.

nealkfrank 5 days ago | 1 point[-]

There is really a lot of interconnected parts to make quite a complex package. I’m still learning the game as I play but it seems to be more palatable mechanics wise than I thought, it’s tricky to know what’s a good move lol

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I finally got to play some board games this week! I played 3 solo games of Root with the better bot project. My record is currently 1-2. I had a ton of fun! Look for my review to come soon!

Marshwiggle92 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I'm looking forward to your report. How many hours are you playing with?

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I think I played for about 3 hours total.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Good and answer. However, I misstyped. I meant to ask how many bots you were playing with.

stetzwebs 11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Finally got to play my copy of #Everdell with the #Pearlbook expansion. The expansion adds a substantial amount to the decision space and I really enjoyed it!

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I’m very intrigued by Pearlbrook. Is it worth the cost?

stetzwebs 11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I think it adds some really good cards to the deck and makes life a little more interesting. I think, if you play with Legends, that the base game is good enough if you're only going to play it once in a while. But if it's a regular at your game table, Pearlbrook is definitely worth it in my opinion.

theDL 12 days ago | 1 point[-]

  • #Everdell - 2x @ 2p with my wife
  • #Akrotiri - played this for the 2nd time. We both were a little better this time around. Fun game!
  • #Carcassonne - we bought the #Carcassonne Expansion 1: Inns and Cathedrals so we had to try it out. Great expansion. Adds a little more to the gameplay without adding too much in the way of rules.
  • #Oh My Goods! - picked this up last week and tried it out last night - fun engine builder! Not sure I want to teach it very often haha, but a solid game! We're looking forward to future plays.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Cool! I hadn’t heard of Oh My Goods until recently and now I’m definitely intrigued.

theDL 11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Yeah it's good! Like I said, not the easiest teach but once you've got it down it's pretty straight forward.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

It doesn’t have a solo mode, does it?

Marshwiggle92 Supporter7 days ago | 1 point[-]

There is a expansion that allows for solo play that is supposedly good.

theDL 11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Nope

R0land1199 Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

Nothing this week.  Unfortunately my session are all cancelled and I couldn't get the family to the table this week.  I suspect as things go on we'll get some good family games going. :)

philryuh Supporter11 days ago | 2 points[-]

I'm trying to remember, do you like to solo a game sometimes? From my memory I think I've usually seen only multiplayer sessions from you. Just wondering if you're starting to consider that these days. Hope you enjoy some great time with your family too :)

R0land1199 Supporter10 days ago | 1 point[-]

I multiplayer now and then.  Especially Gloomhaven.  It depends on my mood so I go through phases.   We recently got a Nintendo switch so I'm doing more video gaming with the family at the moment but I am sure eventually we'll get in to some board games too. :)

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 2 points[-]

Bummer. Sad to hear that. Good luck with the family!

R0land1199 Supporter10 days ago | 1 point[-]

Thanks!  I'm sure they'll get bored and eventually we'll play a few things and they'll have fun. :)

BenjaminK 12 days ago | 1 point[-]

I got in two games of #Reavers of Midgard last week. The first game was 160-159, with me winning. Later in the week we played again, and we scored 161-159, with my wife winning. Incredibly close games both times!

Yesterday before the kids' bedtime we played #Crokinole in teams, my four-year-old and me beating my wife and our 3-year-old. Then I played against my four-year-old 1-on-1 and he legitimately beat me. I don't go easy on him in that game but dang he's good!

Last night my wife and I played #Twice As Clever and #Dino Dunk. I won both games of Twice As Clever, but my wife shut me out in Dino Dunk.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

That's great that your 4 year old beat you. Love it.

BenjaminK 12 days ago | 1 point[-]

He's going to go on to great things. Like...ummm...win Crokinole tournaments haha

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Or know lots about Star Wars. Or both.

BenjaminK 11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Ug he already knows way too much Star Wars (not that that's an actual thing...haha). i expect him to make a star wars dexterity game called Blow Up the Death Star. It will look just like Crokinole, but instead of calling them discs, they'll be proton torpedoes, and instead of getting it in "the center," players will need to try for the thermal exhaust port. Re-skin complete.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

This would be amazing. You could add an expansion that includes TIE fighters and Darth Vader to increase the difficulty somehow.

BenjaminK 9 days ago | 1 point[-]

That would be really cool! I will have to ponder on this.

Skurvy5 Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Some kind of “Use the Force” mechanic would be great too.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

That is great.

WineScar Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

We pulled off learning underwater cities, just under 4 hours... a bit brutal... but could end up being a very good game. We played nations 2 days ago, 7 wonders, Lewis and Clark Discoveries, and Raider of the North Sea.... Here's how I would rank those:

Nations

Underwater Cities

Riders of the North Sea

Lewis and Clark Discoveries

7 Wonders

Jonona 7 days ago | 1 point[-]

Love Raiders of the North Sea, especially with the expansions. They add so much.

WineScar Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

we picked up the expansion but haven't tried them yet... I'm looking forward to it.

Jonona 4 days ago | 1 point[-]

My suggestion is to play a game with Hall of Heroes first to get used to that variant. Fields of Fame is easier to digest if you add it on after that. They work flawlessly all together.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Underwater Cities is fantastic. It definitely gets faster the more you play it. Although I’ve only played it solo. Some great games on your list.

WineScar Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

Mt wife likes it more than I do, but i think it's a game we can play much more, and yes it probably gets faster as you go... it make my brain hurt at the moment, I can only play it one or twice a week at this point.

theDL 12 days ago | 1 point[-]

Wow that's an impressive list for one week! Some big games in there!

Marshwiggle92 Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

How do you like #nations? I've been very interested in that one. I understand it is a somewhat streamlined version of #Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization that you can play solo. Have you played it solo?

WineScar Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Nations will take some more plays before I know... but I like the idea of it... no idea about solo play yet.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Don't play it just for me. But, if you do play it solo, let us know how it is.

WineScar Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

SO I've now played 3 game of Nations, and it's not good two player... it's too nasty to keep our marriage working smoothly. Upon next play we are going to eliminate the war cards and see if we can tolerate it... I don't like messing with the game original design too much, but I still want to keep playing it.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

Oh dear. I like nasty.... But my wife doesn't. Several questions come to mind.

  • Radho, the ultimate care bear, loves this game as a two player. I wonder what he does to make it not mean?
  • I wonder if it would still feel nasty as a solo?

Marshwiggle92 Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

I played a very epic feeling game of #Star Trek: Frontiers last Sunday. I really really liked my first play or two of it. But it has really really grown on me since then it is pretty easily my number 2 of all time. I could see that with more play #Spirit Island might beat it out.... But I don't know.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

This sounds awesome. Glad you are having fun. Unfortunately Spirit Island is becoming less of a favorite for me as time passes. I don’t know if there is something wrong with me or what.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I really am sorry about that. I guess you can always throw it on the trade pile.

JamesReid860 Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

I ended up trading my Spirit Island copy. My group isn't a fan of tough co ops and I had others that I'd play before getting that one so I traded it.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

Dos you like it? Or was it just a group thing?

JamesReid860 Supporter9 days ago | 1 point[-]

I think I might. I enjoy the hard co-ops but I didn't even break it out solo.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter8 days ago | 1 point[-]

Oh dear. To bad you didn't try it.

JamesReid860 Supporter5 days ago | 1 point[-]

I know. Still, even if we tried it it wouldn't have come off of the shelf that much. I do still want to play at some point

Marshwiggle92 Supporter5 days ago | 1 point[-]

I hope you can.

JamesReid860 Supporter4 days ago | 1 point[-]

That makes two of us lol

philryuh Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

  • #Tokaido on mobile app (solo with 2 bots) - Tried out the app for the first time! Lost by 1 point due to all of the end game bonus points that I wasn't aware of (think Mario Party). Tranquil, pretty, very simple gameplay. I could see myself playing every now and then if I'm really bored, similar to the #On Tour app. But it's definitely not something I'd get a hard copy for. Still haven't tried yet but if #PARKS is basically a more complex #Tokaido, then I think my wife and I will enjoy it quite a bit.
  • #Clans of Caledonia with @sdirrane and his friend on Tabletopia - Oh boy, it sure takes a long time to get used to the controls but it was still enjoyable. Seems like a great option to play remote with friends. Got to try out the whiskey-specialized clan for the first time. Still have 6 clans or so that I haven't tried yet!
  • #Architects of the West Kingdom (solo vs. Helena) - Haven't beaten her yet but the fast-paced gameplay is very enjoyable.
  • #Through the Ages: A New Story of Civilization - Downloaded the app. Started the tutorial but haven't gotten a game in yet.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Thanks for the update Phil! I too have no desire to pick up the hard copy of Tokaido.

philryuh Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

I could see it being a good family game once my son's older. At the same time, I'd say there are plenty of other games out there to fill that category. Great app implementation though and it's been nice to discover all these great digital adaptations now that the entire board game community is looking out for alternatives haha

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

It’s been nice to see people come together to find solutions in the midst of all this.

sdirrane Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Aww ya

theDL 12 days ago | 1 point[-]

A friend and I tried out #Oceans on tabletopia as well. I'll have to try out a couple other games but we weren't all that impressed with it, to be honest. It was basically a physics engine that let you have a secret hand of cards, so we had to do all the work of moving stuff around ourselves. I did notice that some of the text on the cards was different than my copy of the game, so it might be a beta of some kind.

Skurvy5 Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

That’s a bummer about Tabletopia being unwieldy. TTS seems to be about the same which has definitely detracted from me using it very much.

philryuh Supporter12 days ago | 1 point[-]

BenjaminK 12 days ago | 1 point[-]

I downloaded Tokaido, but still haven't played the app yet. It looks so good!

philryuh Supporter11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Never played with a hard copy but it sure seems like they did a fantastic job in capturing the essence of the game. It's simple but entertaining enough and relaxing :)

BenjaminK 11 days ago | 1 point[-]

Relaxing is why I play the physical game. I'm glad this one is also relaxing :)
