THE bga game

I've been seeing posts about what we "need" to play if/when there is ever a BGA con. It got me started wondering, the community is small enough right now that there is a pretty good meta that can develop. And, it seems like certain games keep on coming to the foreground.....

For a while it was #Star Wars Imperial Assault. But that seemed to be superceded by #Viticulture: Essential Edition. There has been a lot of buzz around #Root, #Clans of Caledonia, and, to a lesser extent, #Scythe.

So, my question is this. What game do you think is most characteristic of the current BGA meta?

I think Viticulture ranks near the top of that list with Root and Scythe very close.

I think Scythe would be in third place.

I haven’t been here long enough to really contribute to this post other than to say I have not played any of the games listed.

I would find it interesting if the most popular games on this site saw a significant variance from BGG though. The current popularity rankings on BGA don’t give any clear indication of why any particular game is ranked highly as far I can see however.

I also have to say that part of the reasons for those games coming up a lot has to do with some of the people who are very active on here.  I know I am very active myself and so is Phil, and we often talk about 3 of the above mentioned games frequently.

Of course that is true.

As far as the game that is representative of BGA... hmm. It must be a co-op because we are all working together to build a community. But nothing good comes immediately to mind.

Right now #Root is “the game” of BGA. It’s the hotness  and a new person to our forum would assume that we are all obsessed with this game.

I'm inclined to agree.

I agree it's Root ATM.  I think this is aided by the fact that a few more people have been able to get access to it.  That people have been able to start preordering it who haven't had the chance to own or play it yet and because a lot of people are getting it through Kickstarter with the #Root: The Underworld Expansion.

Gotta agree with this one. Root gets a lot of mentions, and posts about it generate a ton of comments. Although I'm sure Trent can run the numbers on the comments and posts and give a definitive answer haha.

Not sure what your question is asking. Are you wondering what game represents BGA? Or what game is “the game” of BGA?

Yes, to both.
