Spirit Island!

New User3 days ago

I will definitely get #Betrayal Legacy or #Wingspan for my team as we really want to try out how the legacy games works and we also want to try the classic game Wingspan as well.

I would highly recommend #Pandemic Legacy: Season 1 if you are interested in legacy games for the group.

New User2 days ago

I have own Pandemic and Pandemic OTB, that's why I am not really sure if I should get legacy game from Pandemic Legacy but I saw gameplay about Betrayal Legacy and feels likeit is pretty interesting since I don't have a copy of Betrayal at the House yet.

I think if you enjoy Pandemic you will have a great time with pandemic Legacy, while it is based on the game it is definitely it's own glorious thing. The game changes so much and makes you so invested in what's going on.

I haven't played betrayal legacy, so can't really compare them, but I have played betrayal base game and while it is a lot of fun I am not convinced it is as good a foundation for a legacy game. That said they might have done amazing things with it so if it vibes with you then go for it!

#Betrayal Legacy is the only legacy game I've played that the group lost interest in after one play. We got the rules slightly wrong, everyone had a boring time and there's been no interest whatsoever in starting up again. It's more a group problem than a game problem and I'm sure you'll enjoy it - just keep an eye on the rules!

Supporter3 days ago

Those both sound like great choices. The nice thing about#Wingspan is that it can also be played at 1 and 2 players as well which, depending on your group, would make it easier to get to the table if you just have one other person.

If it were me, I'd go#Wingspan. I didn't enjoy#Betrayal at House on the Hill so I personally have no interest in the legacy version. And of course with everything going on it would be much easier to get Wingspan to the table. Not to mention there's another expansion coming out later this year!

Thanks for the giveaway!

You're welcome! Any particular game you'd love to get if you won?

New User12 days ago

#Trickerion and #The Battle of Five Armies are both on my radar.

#The Battle of Five Armies does look pretty cool, do you think you'll prefer it over #War of the Ring (Second Edition)?

New User2 days ago

You're actually making me question whether this is the game I'd get first haha. I already found #Trickerion on a good deal recently and snagged it, because it was my most desired game (I'm a sucker for MindClash games).

So I'm updating the game I would get to either

#The Reckoners Board Game,

#Cerebria: The Inside World, or

#Food Chain Magnate

Thanks for making me think about this, Bob:)

Haha, I do aim to sow confusion wherever I go, but nice find with trickerion! I've only played FCM out of that list and enjoyed it a lot, although just be prepared that it can be brutal. Which I know was off putting to one person at the table.

My vote is for #Food Chain Magnate! My insert just came in today and I'm stoked to use it

New User2 days ago

Is the game as good as everyone suggests, in your opinion?

So full disclosure, I received the game about 2 weeks ago and played it 4 times now. I tend to fall into the camp of wanting to play/falling in love with the latest game I got so there might be some bias. I would have far more plays if my fiancé were more willing to play games in general lol.

That out of the way, I think the game is amazing. It's basically a sandbox game where you're free to do whatever you want. Of course there are timing considerations when it comes to the milestones so you have to pay attention to what your opponents are doing. My only knocks against the game are:

1) it has a runaway loser problem. I lost a game against my friend I want to say $417 to $35. There was absolutely nothing I could do all game to even remotely compete. I've heard some people can get discouraged when this happens (and rightfully so) but I personally just wanted to play again immediately after to come up with a better strategy.

2) the set up is long and it's such a table hog. Hence the need for my insert. I'm hopeful it will eliminate this negative for me

Overall I'd say if you're remotely interested in it get it 100% When I pulled the trigger I figured at the very least I could try it a couple times and resell it for most of what I spent

New User2 days ago

From what I've read, I suspect I'll prefer #War of the Ring (Second Edition) because it's more grand-scheme strategy whereas #The Battle of Five Armies is more skirmish battles. Thematically, War of the Ring is supposed to be stronger as well. I would still like Battle of Five Armies becuase it's another highly rated LotR game, and I love the lore, but War of the Ring will be very hard to beat.

Yeah, I have only played WotR, but my impression is that it feels more like the books. BotFA seems to be more combat focused and there is more nuance (and fiddliness) to how the combat plays out. So I think if you were in to that then it might be the better pick but WotR is more about the grand plans with more straightforward combat (which can be swingy). I adore WotR though, and found that while there is luck in it, you roll so many dice over the course of the game that it feels like it balances out

Supporter9 days ago

Do you own any games from Mindclash so far? I'm most interested in Trickerion and Anachrony.

New User9 days ago

Yeah I have Anachrony and it's really beautiful. I just backed #Perseverance: Castaway Chronicles as well. I like their style of games and the artwork is always really nice.

Have you tried Anachrony solo? I'm considering it as a solo game, and the solo mode is very well regarded.

New User3 days ago

I haven't, as I never really play solo:/

Supporter12 days ago

Phil, you are a wonder, I didn't really like the look of #Pendulum, but you make it look pretty sharp.

If I were too win again, I might put it towards a preorder of #The Great Zimbabwe.

Supporter12 days ago

Hahahah thank you :)

Good lighting always helps make something look good even though I'm not particularly skilled with taking pictures. The game does look better in person though, and so does #Tapestry.

Are you thinking of playing #The Great Zimbabwe with a group? Or is there a great solo variant for it?

Supporter12 days ago

I would probably leave it in Kansas, and try to play it when I go back for business or vacation. Besides, I don't expect to live here the rest of my life, and I am likely to move back before it will be reprinted yet again. So, mostly it would be getting it while the getting is good.

A photography competition could be a cool challenge

New User27 hours ago

I've been wanting to give #Aeon's End a try for a while now! #Spirit Island is another one I have on my radar too.

I feel like I keep posting the continual praise for #Spirit Island on BGA lately. I played yesterday trying out a new spirit and had an absolute blast. After about 7 plays now, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface but I honestly can't wait for more. So glad I discovered this game.

#Root took first place in my wishlist again but there is so much to choose from!

Everyone is so obsessed with this game lol. What's the big draw for you?

Been fan for it for a while but now and it would fit my gaming group. Now that it seems there a pretty good bots to play solo against, I gained another reason to buy it some day

Still waiting on my copy of #The Gallerist to arrive from the last challenge, but that would still get my vote

That is definitely on my 'to play' list, have you tried it?

I wish! As of now,  I've only seen videos!

Same, one day though :D

I have heard mixed things about #Vast: The Crystal Caverns, have you played it?

Really? how so? I know they used a lot of what they learned in vast to inform roots design. but i thought it was pretty cool on its own. I've never played it though.

Just that the asymmetry doesn't quite gel in the way that you would want it to and that the strategy is fairly 1 dimensional for a lot of the roles. This is from reviewers who do like Root (but maybe don't love it as much as some folk on BGA). I've never played it but love the concept. It could well be that it just happens I came across some less than stellar reviews as I have never really researched it thoroughly. That all said if you think you'll enjoy it then don't let me dissuade you. I was more asking so you could persuade me if you had played and loved it 😅

Supporter3 days ago

I think Hall of Heroes make #Raiders of the North Sea a significantly richer and better game.

So I've heard. can't believe I've waited this long to get this one. I hope it brings a breath of fresh air to the vanilla game.

Random question... is there a chance that the retail prices on this site will be alterable by location, or are US prices the only option going forward? Thanks!

I'd love to win something! That would be cool.

I have a bunch of stuff on my wishlist at the moment. If I didn't miss the kickstarter I'd say #Pax Pamir (Second Edition) is the game I'm coveting the most right now. Second to that would have to be #Aeon's End which is the solo game I've been looking at for a while. The #1 recommended solo game is #Mage Knight but the Solosaurus review really put me off. It sounds too unwieldy and overwrought to get any time at my table.

I've been looking at shorter playtime games lately, namely #Aquatica and #Wild Space. I think both might be on the verge of releasing in the US though. I think #Pipeline could be fun too; that economic spatial puzzle seems like a cool combination.

Pipeline is great, although it is a real brain melter!

Aquatica looks so cool. I love the little manta minis!

Totally. The card tucking looks kinda neat too.

Yep all of the components are cool in that game.

Supporter9 days ago

Awesome! Thank you!

I gotta try #Dice Throne sooner or later!

I enjoyed #Dice Throne, it is pretty light/luck heavy but it is thematic and fun and as long as everyone knows that going in I think you'll enjoy it!

I have a couple of the Dice Throne games and i've enjoyed my plays.  Unfortuntly, I've only gotten a single play in against a couple of different people.  I'm waiting to see how well the game holds up to multiple plays and against people with multiple plays.  I've only done the 1v1 and am lookign forward to doing a 2v2 to see how well that works.

Supporter9 days ago

#Dice Throne: Season 2 - Gunslinger vs. Samurai was the first kickstarter I ever backed and although the art and production quality was fantastic, the gameplay was just fine. It felt like a mash up of #Magic: The Gathering and #Last Stand and I'd rather just play one of those instead.

That's disappointing :/

Supporter3 days ago

Yeah, it's a fine game for sure but I just never saw a reason to play it after the first two games I had. I bet if I got the larger character pack I'd at least want to try them all out.

Apparently I am on a deck/bag building kick. Been looking at the #Dale of Merchants line, the Clank options (probably OG #Clank! A Deck-Building Adventure), #Fort, #Orléans, and #Lions of Lydia. I'd go for one (or combination) of these.

My kind of gamer! I'll take#Orléans with the Trade and Intrigue expansion. I personally haven't played with it but I've heard it's a must to make the game more interesting so it's high on my wishlist. Still waiting on my#Lions of Lydia KS so that's a good choice too!

Decisions! What have been the deck/bag builders you've already bought/playedthat got you on the kick?

That is a great list of games! I adore #Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game and #War of the Ring, both are excellent in very different ways.

New User11 days ago

Oooh, where are you planning on snagging Battlestar Galactica?

hmm haven't though about that yet :£

If I were to win, I think I'd pick up #Cooper Island

I am in this strange unknown spot where I am actually content with my collection *gasp*

I am sure it will not last long lol

Supporter11 days ago

Huh, I just checked out your collection, I didn't know that you had #Barrage. How do you like it? Have you tried it solo?

Long story short, I ordered it, it arrived last thursday but the box was damaged. The company offered a 20% discount or a replacement, and I took the replacement so I am waiting on that now! It is scheduled to arrive friday!

Also I forgot that I put that in my owned list...I was trying to keep it a surprise until I sent the picture in for my win lol.

Supporter11 days ago

oops....So sorry.

Haha it is not a problem! I am happy to share in my joy! I might have some time friday night as well to punch the game and try it out solo potentially!

Supporter11 days ago

Here's to hope.

Yeah, I have hit a similar point, I think mostly I have just played substantially fewer games in lockdown, so have a greater pile of games I own and am desperate to play more.

Haha, I've kind of felt that way for a while too. But I won the giveaway a few weeks ago and I had games ready to go. Ordered the same day. I guess you can be content but still appreciate new things. No regrets - both games I got are great! I doubt I'll buy any more for the year though, especially with holidays coming.

Don't get me wrong, I have games I would buy for sure if given the opportunity, but I am not feeling the normal urge that I often do to get some new stuff! I want to explore what I have more!

Yep, exactly. Quite a few games have entered my shelves in the last year, and there's no way I've seen all they have to offer yet!

Supporter12 days ago

Okay, now, thanks to BGA my coffers are full of dream games... I think I'm eyeing #Stuffed Fables (although it might become a present from Santa), and some #Pokémon Trading Card Game theme decks/booster packs.  I may also get some upgraded components.

Supporter11 days ago

So, You have done pretty good with your new years resolution about game buying this year. Do you think that you will make that resolution again next year?

I committed to #nobuy but caved in when quarantine hit. Now the floodgates have opened and my shelves are overflowing again...

Supporter3 days ago

LOL. I know that feeling.

Supporter11 days ago

Yeah, I really have only officially spent money on 1 game, everything else has been Giveaway wins.  Honestly, I'm feeling like I will set up the same resolution next year but I think I may hope that I don't end up spending money on a game at all.  I've got so much to play at this point I really don't need anything new.

Supporter11 days ago

Way to go.

Supporter11 days ago

Thanks.  I have to say winning a bit definitely helped.  But I think next year will be easy unless something new comes out that just blows me away.

I should add a small qualification that we do sometimes purchase a game that is for the family, but that's not for my personal stash of games or from my own personal spending budget.

Haha, Pokemon cards take me back, I bet I still have a stack in the loft of my family home!

Supporter11 days ago

I remember it being one of the first games that I played that weren't video games.  The learning curve was low and you could play it quickly.  My daughters used to watch the Pokemon show so my oldest really wanted to play a Pokemon game.

Supporter12 days ago

Well I need to decide what I'm after with my last win before I go again! But it all depends upon what I pick up this time.

Have you made a decision yet? Just curious!

Supporter3 days ago

I have! It was supposed to arrive yesterday but it was delayed. Hopefully the picture will be up today.

Supporter12 days ago

I've really enjoyed my two plays of #Alma Mater and it has me thinking of snatching up #Lorenzo il Magnifico but I've really been loving #Maracaibo and instead of being glad I skipped over #Great Western Trail to grab it it just makes me want to go grab GWT as well.

GWT is one of my favourite games, but I have never played Maracaibo so can't say whether it is worth having both

Supporter11 days ago

I love the theme of #Great Western Trail but I don't know that I'd play it much if I had it.  I'd definitely play with someone else though.

Major bummer for me that the wife hated #Great Western Trail. She felt like the game was comprised of fiddly little systems that didn't cohere together well. I completely disagreed. Had to sell it though, as it was getting no table time. I recommend it although the theme doesn't quite make sense mechanically imo.

New User12 days ago

I have been wanting #Great Western Trail also, just hoping the price drops a bit or I find a cheaper used copy.

I keep saying #Baseball Highlights: 2045 but I'm still nervous to get it as I don't want to get a game that no one else is interested in playing with me, haha.

Another game that's shown up on my radar is the upcoming 2nd edition of #The King is Dead. This seems like a pretty simple game with pretty deep choices, and I love the style of interaction that it has. The new 2nd edition looks pretty beautiful as well: https://www.instagram.com/p/CE_-wJnjEoP/.  Has anyone here played this game?

I want to get #Baseball Highlights: 2045 purely to play it on my own because it's such a highly regarded solo system. You could always buy it as a solo game and bring other players in if you get the chance.

That's true. So far, solo gaming has not been my wont, but maybe this will be the first game I get primarily for that purpose.

Supporter12 days ago

Oh my word. That is gorgeous. I had no idea that the new eddition was so beautiful.

Have you played the original?

Supporter12 days ago

I have not. I have thougth about getting it a time or two, but I always thought it looked sorta unappealing.

You talking aesthetics, or are you just not interested in the gameplay?

Supporter12 days ago

Mostly aesthetics, It is a multiplayer game. And those are easier to get to the table if they happen to look nice as well as play nice.

Very true. I did kinda like the map on the original, but it wasn't anything super eye-catching like this is. The new box cover is more appealing as well, IMO.

Supporter11 days ago

The new box cover is gorgeous.

Supporter12 days ago

Top games on my radar:

I think the earliest purchase will be Flip Ships. Seems like a great one for the family. And playing Pendulum actually resurrected Tzolk'in back onto my shortlist lol

Keyflower! Just so good

My copy of TMB arrived recently and it's better than imagined. So. Many. Dice.

New User12 days ago

This is a great list...Too Many Bones looks like so much fun.
