Covid-19: How are you holding up?

Hello everyone! I just wanted to start a thread and check in on everyone and see how we are all holding up.

Many of us most likely use games to get away from the current situation, but that doesn’t mean that talking about our current situation won’t be helpful.

I am a pharmacist and would be happy to answer any health related questions you might have.

I’m also a parent of 3 children - ages 2nd grade, Kindergarten, and pre-school. I’d be happy to share ideas that we’ve been using to help keep our kiddos entertained. As long as you share some ideas back!

Im also here to talk or joke around or just listen if anyone needs to say anything. Let me know if I can help you in any way possible.

Stay safe. Stay at home. We will get through this together!

I'm doing quite well but I am lucky in that I am sort of setup for this thing.  I have 3 older kids, they are unable to work but university has gone digital.  I have a large house with lots of entertainment options for everyone.  I was already working from home most of the time and work just told us to work from home for now.  My industry is considered essential so I won't be out of work.  My wife runs her own small business so while she has slowed down she can still do some work as well.

From a board game perspective we started with tabletopia this week and have had a couple of sessions which have gone quite well!  It's not a replacement at all but it is a really nice alternative.

Nice! Glad you guys are doing ok.

How is Tabletopia different from TTS?

R0land1199 Supporter56 days ago | 1 point[-]

I haven’t played either extensively but I think the main difference is that tabletop simulator actually simulates a tabletop. It can do a lot more than just board games.

if all you want is board games I think Tabletopia probably has a better learning curve. TTS is pretty darn good and if you have a VR setup you can literally play with the pieces.

It's been oddly ok for me, if not somewhat better. The office I work at full-time falls under one of the essential services (construction industry). But I made the choice not to go in ever since the lockdown started two weeks ago. Just wanted to be considerate of the more vulnerable members in my family, especially my son. I'm blessed to have the option to work full-time for BGA but it does mean figuring out financials and seeing how long I'd be able to maintain this. Still, it's been great to finally be able to focus on one thing instead of juggling two jobs, as I had been starting a year ago. I've also been enjoying spending more time with family and it's great to see my son is very happy to be able to play with his dad more often haha

Hey hey.

We are doing pretty well here in Colorado.  I am a teacher so I'm kind of doubling up.  I'm teaching digitally/remotely but also being involved with my oldest school work.  She is in 1st grade.  We have 4 total so it definitely can get tight in the house.  But thankfully most of our weather has been great so we've gone for a walk most days.  (Today is going to be a cold one though).

I've actually been able to get a little bit of Digital/Online gaming in.  I'm playing Viticulture tonight with some of my gaming group.

How are you holding up Brian?

Doing well but very busy. My pharmacy adjusted our hours to accommodate our 7am “most vulnerable” shopping hour. So that’s altered schedules and routines at my store.

Thank you, and keep up the good work.  I'm so glad we have so many people who are willing to be going into work, especially those who come into direct contact with people who are sick with something.

Thanks Scott. I’ll be honest some days I’d like it a lot more if we could stay home. But I have a professional responsibility to be there.

Thanks for opening yourself up for questions.

How concerned should someone on prednisone be about the immune-suppressive nature of it and potential for contracting coronavirus?

Skurvy5 Supporter58 days ago | 2 points[-]

I would be mildly concerned. Take extra precautions when leaving the house and try to stay home if at all possible

I/we are doing well.

Last Saturday evening the president, under the statute of exceptions, declared a 30 day, mandatory, stay at home order for the whole country. Of course there are a number of exceptions.... You can buy food, essential businesses (pharmacies, clinics, and grocery stores) remain open. Farmers are allowed to continue working. And, some stuff like that. Let's just say say that there is a bunch of people, especially here in the country that don't see the value of this and continue to circulate, which makes me, at best, highly annoyed. It was worse the first two days until they found out that the police and army were arresting offenders.

So, I have to stay at home. We have given all the non essential staff at the clinic paid leave, and my work, as a administrator can be done from home. So I'm not to go to the clinic except in case of emergency.

I have been using this time to, reconnect with my family, read, work around the house, and, yes, play games. I actually think that for us as a family this break is a good thing.

I would love a chance to be at home. But we are an essential business and have been dramatically more busy than we were before. Which was already pretty dang busy.

We are glad for all those who are working.

Skurvy5 Supporter57 days ago | 1 point[-]

Thanks Chris. It’s funny when people say that because I honestly have no idea how to respond.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter57 days ago | 1 point[-]

OK. Try this.

"man, I hate those of you who are working." does that help you know how to respond.

Skurvy5 Supporter57 days ago | 1 point[-]

Lol! That’s much better. Honestly though, I never know what to say.

Marshwiggle92 Supporter57 days ago | 1 point[-]

Glad I could help.
