Scythe: One Man’s Mediocre Storage Solution
Scythe is a fantastic game with amazing components, beautiful art, and a huge footprint.
The game becomes even more amazing as you add expansions to the base set. I currently own the Invaders from Afar expansion which adds 2 factions to the starting 5.
I also own (and have completed) the Rise of Fenris expansion which adds a whole host of new modules and other items to the base game.
(I’ll try to keep this spoiler free)
One thing that becomes less amazing about the game as you add in expansions is a storage solution. Fortunately, the core game box is oversized and the components are over packaged.
My mediocre storage solution is actually pretty simple - I just took all the components, put them each in their own plastic bags, and then chucked the plastic miniature storage containers into the bin.
I then carefully pack the box so that nothing will be damaged, so that the lid closes completely, and that nothing will shift when I store the box vertically.
The base box has tons of space without the stock insert taking up all kinds of space. I don’t yet have the Wind Gambit expansion but I could easily fit the airships inside with this storage solution.
Sorry that this picture is sideways. I blame BenK. Anyway, here you see Scythe, all packed up and ready for storage.
This is how everything packs into the box. Notice how each faction has all of their components- miniatures and all - in one easy to unpack plastic bag. I actually acquired all of these bags from Scythe and the Rise of Fenris expansion. I didn’t need to spend a dime for this storage solution. (Well I did need to buy the games).
Removing the faction bags exposes the other components for the game, each in their own individual bags.
A few more baggies removed and you can see some of the flat components.
And here is everything out of the box. Super organized, easy to unpack and put away, and totally free!
Definitely a mediocre storage solution if I’ve ever seen one.
